I've been Minted! Otomi Wedding Set now available (!)

So excited to be able to post about this! I've been entering designs at Minted now and again- mostly for fun- but this one I was really excited about. Last year in October I went to Mexico with the husband for a little trip to a cute place outside of Cabo. And while walking around I found this little store that featured hand embroidered textiles of a local folk art called Otomi. They were sooooo beautiful (and I'm still kicking myself for not buying a ton of them!!) Anyways I took some photos and when I came back home I spent some time drawing images that were similar to what I had seen in those beautiful tapestries. The way I designed them I knew they weren't perfect for letterpress printing- so I decided to enter them into the Minted wedding design contest. Fast forward a few months and the best email arrived- I'd won! So now my lovely Otomi design is available in FIVE different color ways + a ton of options like different backing patterns. Plus all designs are available in the rsvp, direction, reception, envelope liners, thank you cards, and wrap around return address labels designs. So fun right? I'm really excited, and there is more to come! I've also won not ONE but TWO art competitions (!!) and soon small to large prints of some of my original paintings will be available.

It's like it's my birthday. or a late Christmas.

Either way I couldn't be more excited.

Jake and Kristin Hotel Bel-Air Letterpress printed Wedding set

I have been wanting to shoot this elegant and beautiful wedding set for awhile, but was finally motivated when we found out that we were mentioned in a photo shoot of the (stunning) actual wedding featured in the summer edition of Inside Weddings Magazine (!). You can see the actual article here...IW_2013_Summer_Cline-Wurzak . The programs we created on page 96 and the menu on page 100 (the calligraphy for each guest's name was done by the very talented Tracy Joe.) Not featured was the mailed wedding invitation set, so I thought I would share that with you as well! We worked closely with the bride and groom and party planners to create and letterpress print this set. The invitation was printed on 220# Crane's Lettra, with edge coloring on the invitation (to match the ink, custom envelope liner and custom wax seal).the other pieces (RSVP, Brunch and Rehearsal dinner) were all printed on 110# Crane's Lettra. Subtle butterflies are sprinkled throughout the set, from the custom wax seal to the outer envelope, blind printed on the invitation and brunch invitation. Everything was wrapped in a beautiful sheer silver mesh Midori ribbon held together with the butterfly wax seal. We also created the Save the Date mailers, you can see them from a previous post here. I think the programs will be a separate post...

Letterpress printed floral with watercolor LDS wedding invitation set

I had so much fun working on this wedding set, the bride to be wanted lots of flowers and different textures so I was able to integrate wood veneer, metallics, and most of all I hand watercolored all of the invitation cards before we printed them. (This was a little bit more of an undertaking than I had initially anticipated, but well worth it in the end!) This is also the first wedding set I have designed for someone getting married in a Mormon Temple, so I got to learn a lot about sealing ceremonies, ring ceremonies, etc... The Mormon Temple in Oakland is high in the Oakland hills and can be seen at night  (and during the day) from almost anywhere in the East Bay, so it was fun to know this was the destination for their family and friends. We used the 220# Lettra for the invitation (which worked surprisingly well for watercolor), and 110# Lettra for the direction, rsvp and sealing ceremony- the ring ceremony was printed on real wood veneer and the whole set was bound with a wrap imprinted with their initials and date. Have your initials custom letterpress printed onto coasters!

I am pretty excited about this new shop offering, I was going to wait until this morning, but couldn't resist tweeting about it yesterday- but here is the official announcement! I ordered some custom 3.5" round coasters in a thinner 40pt. weight to use for another project (usually we use the larger standard 4" size, 60pt. thickness like standard bar coasters)- and since I had more than a few left over I started playing around with other ideas we could use them for - and how cute is this?!? Our Antique wood type fits perfectly on this size and I love the lighter more sophisticated weight and somewhat rustic / fun look of these. So so many reasons to order these cute coasters! Perfect for wedding receptions, cocktail parties,  birthday parties, house warming gift, an anniversary party... the list could just go on and on, right? We have a ton of this particular wood type, so as long as it's just 3 letters, we can print it for you! You can find the listing in our etsy shop here. Currently our listing is for quantities of 100, but we can do more or less- just let me know and I can get you a custom quote and listing.

Bridal Shower Brunch Invitation

It's not that often that we get the chance to design a bridal shower invitation that includes a Dachshund carrying a ring (!) But we just had to include the Bride-to-be's best friend. Designed by us and printed on 110# Crane's Lettra with a fun accent envelope.IMG_2255 IMG_2247

Vintage Map Save the Date

This save the date was designed to reflect the couples international travels all over the world. Each envelope was lined with a design from a vintage map, and the actual save the date shows a map of the Bay Area where the couple will have their ceremony.(sorry for the erased web address, I wanted to keep their wedding website just for guests!) All of our designs are custom and designed just for our clients, please let us know if we can design and print something for you! IMG_2241

Nick and Ellen's Wedding Invitation (wood, wax and birds!)

Happy New Year! I am so excited for 2013 to get underway- especially now that we are back in California. I thought I would start off the year with a really fun and vibrant wedding invitation set we designed and printed for a really cute couple in San Francisco. It is unique in so many ways- the invitation is letterpress printed on 110# Lettra in FOUR colors, then corner rounded, adhered to a birch wood veneer card (also corner rounded), then sealing wax was carefully dripped and then sealed on the top with a custom stamp. How amazing is that? The rest of the set consisted of a rsvp card and envelope, and a weekend activities card with map on the back. Everything was carefully stuffed into a matching wood veneer envelope.nick ellen zoom nick ellen wax seal nick and ellen invite nick ellen full set

Wedding Reception Menu and Treat Bag

This clever and cute bag was designed by the very talented Lisa from Good on Paper Design. Not only is it a menu, but also a goodie bag for guests to take treats home with them. How clever is that? I thought the brown kraft paper would be tricky to print on, but it was surprisingly easy (well it did take some time to do the "make-ready" so the type would look the same although it is printed over the bags seam)....But the ink sits really well on the paper allowing for a darker than usual coverage on the banner at the top. I'm glad we used black in for this too- sometimes colors can get a little too low contrast on brown paper, but this just came out looking so crisp and sharp. love it. If you are interested in something similar, give Lisa an email!

Save the Weekend!

Hello, Back to some of our recent letterpress printed projects! I know I don't have to wait until after the wedding, or party, or any event to post about it, but I just prefer to wait so only my clients and their guests get to see the printed pieces until after the special day. So I've had to sit on this one for a bit, but it was worth it! This lovely tri-fold  save the date allowed us to incorporate all the necessary information- while still keeping the design classic and elegant. We used Crane Lettra 300 gram in Pearl White and a hand mixed ink to match the Hotel Bel-Air signature grey/blue color. I think it is so important to let your guests know all the weekend activities ahead of time, especially if they will be traveling to attend (as most of their guests were). Designed and printed by Paper Monkey Press.

Boston Wedding with trees, birds and a boat

It is rare these days that I have the pleasure of sitting down and meeting with my clients face to face, since we moved to the Eastern part of the country most of my design consultations take place over the phone or via email. But not this one! I was lucky that these Pittsburgh transplants found me to design their Boston (well, close to Boston) based wedding ceremony. The wedding took place at a beautiful Estate with lots of trees and birds, so we incorporated those as well as a fun map since everyone was traveling to the wedding location, and the full set was wrapped with a coordinating sash and tucked into an outer envelope lined with a dark blue liner paper. The invitation was printed on 220# / 600 gram weight Crane's Lettra and the map and rsvp card were printed on 110# / 300 gram weight. For the day of pieces, we created some beautiful and functional fan programs (digitally printed) on Crane Lettra new digital friendly paper. (We also did table numbers, place cards and menus- but did I get any photos of those before they went off to Boston? no. But trust me, they were super cute and everything matched perfectly.)

Vasiana and Igor's black and blind wedding invitation set

A simple and lovely invitation set for you this hot summer afternoon that includes a few fireflies and blind printing. (I love fireflies, I had forgotten how magical they seem during the warm summer nights here on the East Coast.) This blind and black wedding set was printed on 300 gram Crane's Lettra and design and printed by us at Paper Monkey Press.

A wedding in Italy

This post has been a long time coming, but I wanted to wait until after the event and then I had to actually take the photos- ah to have an intern that knows more than me about photography... one day. This very special wedding set was for a couple in Los Angeles who had both fallen in love with a small town in Italy about 2 hours north of Rome in the Umbrian region, Orvieto. There is an absolutely stunning old town with amazing architecture, including the former Abbey, and now hotel where they had their ceremony - La Badia di Orvieto. We wanted to make sure we included the imagery from the region into their wedding set, so I drew an outline of the tower (built in 1103) and incorporated this throughout the set, from the save the dates, through to their thank you cards. The image was printed without ink (blind printing) to keep it subtle but still hint at the amazing view that would greet their guest upon their arrival. The full wedding set consisted of the invitation, outer lined envelope, map, rsvp, rsvp envelope, accommodations card and brunch invitation. It was wrapped in a vellum enclosure and sealed with a custom wax seal of the Abbey tower. The pattern used on the liner, envelopes, rsvp and accommodations cards came from the local tile work in the region. The set was printed on Crane's Lettra Pearl White in both 300 and 600 gram weight.

Traditional and elegant black and white wedding invitation set

We designed and printed this formal wedding set, which included a custom shimmer silver wrap, invitation, outer envelope (not shown),  reception card,  and rsvp postcard (a great way to save some money- less postage and no envelope costs!). I love the simple yet elegant feel of this set- especially when it was all wrapped up and ready to be pulled out of the envelope by their excited guests. Printed on 110# Crane's Lettra paper.

Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired LA Wedding

This lovely wedding set was inspired by the stained glass window designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. We created a similar letterpress friendly design and paired with a simple, yet elegant font for a crisp, modern and lovely invitation set. The invitation was printed on thick 600 gram / 220# Crane's Lettra paper, with the rest of the pieces on 300 gram / 110#. The map was designed by us and was printed on both sides, one side with brunch/ activities information, the other a map with key of important sites around Los Angeles. The full set consisted of an outer envelope, invitation, map/brunch card, rehearsal dinner invitation, rsvp, rsvp envelope and thank you cards.

We're still here!

I know, It's been too long- but it's our busy season and we've been working our little monkey knuckles down to the bone designing and printing some lovely Bat Mitzvah's, Weddings, Weddings, Baby Announcements, Weddings- well you get the picture. To help, here are some quick snapshots of some recent work- I promise to get back to some full detailed posts soon, so much to share! Hope spring is treating you well, we'll be back with more soon! xo, busy busy paper monkeys.

Letterpress printing for Leslie Vega Designs

While we do a lot (a lot) of the designs for what we print, we also have been lucky enough to establish relationships with talented designers that we get to work with by printing their designs. One of these is the very lovely and prolific Leslie Vega. While she is taking a break from wedding designs to focus on her branding work, we printed this beautiful project for her last year and she is kind enough to let us share it with you. This job was letterpress printed on 300 gram / 110# Crane's Lettra Pearl White paper. Very pretty, non?

Spanish Language Wedding Invitation

I unfortunately do not speak Spanish. I should, I lived in California for over 25 years of my life, and I took Spanish in High School- but I managed not to really retain anything of significance. Luckily that didn't stop me from working with this lovely bride in designing her wedding set, simple and elegant. Blind letterpress printing almost gives the feeling of lace on the invitation.

Katie and Tim Wedding Tattoo Inspired Invitation Set

And suddenly it was December. Wow- how this year has flown by. We have been so lucky and happy to work on so many great projects this year, and there are many, many more to share with you. This is definitely one of my favorites that we have done lately, we started with their wood veneer save the dates cards using our hand drawn bluebird of happiness design, and carried that theme through to their mailed wedding invitation set. I love all the tiny extra personal touches we snuck in. Their cat waiting on the rsvp envelope, a tiny paw print on the map, a small nautical star here and there. It's so much fun for me to add these quirky personal additions- after all what's the point of a custom invitation set if it's not customized to you?!

Fountain Grass Wedding Invitation

Hello, Happy Halloween! I have a very un-halloween related post for you today, a beautiful wedding invitation designed with a simple but elegant image of fountain grass. This set was custom designed to the bride's specifications, and printed on a wonderful 450 gram paper that has a great texture. It was printed using a copper ink- which while a metallic ink, won't appear metallic when printed on an absorbant cotton fiber paper. If we printed this same ink on a coated paper (which doesn't really work for letterpress printing, but hypothetically speaking, say we did), then it would look more shimmery and metallic. But it still has a lovely warm and natural feeling, especially on this paper. The bride also chose to use a postcard for her RSVP card. I like this trend for less formal wedding sets, it saves some paper, postage stamps and a print run. It's not for every event, but it works perfectly here.
